What is the meaning of Sinus Lift?

Sinus Lift is widely used term in Dental Procedures.

Sinus lift, also known as sinus augmentation or sinus elevation, is a dental procedure that aims to increase the amount of bone in the upper jaw’s posterior region. The maxillary sinuses, which are air-filled spaces located above the jawbone in the cheek area, can sometimes impede the placement of dental implants due to insufficient bone height.

During a sinus lift procedure, a dental professional will access the sinus area, usually from the side of the mouth or through the jawbone, and gently lift the sinus membrane upward. This creates a cavity where a bone grafting material, such as synthetic bone or autogenous bone (taken from another area of the patient’s body), is placed. The bone graft serves as a foundation for new bone growth, promoting the regeneration of bone in the sinus area. This additional bone height allows for the successful placement and integration of dental implants.

Sinus lift procedures are typically performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons or periodontists, who have specialized training in dental implantology. These procedures can help individuals with insufficient bone in the upper jaw regain the necessary bone volume for successful implant placement, ensuring a stable and secure foundation for long-term dental restorations.
