What is the meaning of Periapical Abscess?
Periapical Abscess is widely used term in Dental Conditions.
A periapical abscess is a dental condition characterized by the formation of a localized pus-filled sac at the tip of the tooth root. It occurs as a result of a bacterial infection that initially starts within the innermost part of the tooth called the pulp, and then spreads to the surrounding tissues causing inflammation and the formation of an abscess. Common symptoms include throbbing pain, swelling, sensitivity to pressure or temperature changes, and sometimes a noticeable pimple-like bump on the gum. Treatment typically involves draining the abscess and addressing the underlying infection with root canal therapy or, in some cases, tooth extraction. Antibiotics may also be prescribed to eliminate the infection. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent further complications and to alleviate the associated discomfort.
