What is the meaning of Overjet?

Overjet is widely used term in Dental Miscellaneous Term.

Overjet in dental terminology refers to the horizontal distance between the upper and lower front teeth when the jaw is closed. It is also known as horizontal overlap or protrusion. Overjet is usually measured in millimeters and is determined by the positioning of the upper and lower jaws. In a normal bite, there is a slight overjet of a few millimeters, allowing the upper teeth to slightly overlap the lower teeth. However, excessive overjet, also known as an anterior open bite or protrusion, can lead to alignment and bite issues, affecting both the aesthetics and functionality of the teeth.
