What is the meaning of Lingual?

Lingual is widely used term in Dental Anatomy.

In dental anatomy, lingual refers to the surface or aspect of a tooth that is facing the tongue. It is derived from the Latin word “lingua,” which means tongue. The lingual side of a tooth is typically located toward the inside of the mouth and is opposite to the facial or buccal surface. The lingual surface can be found in the mandibular (lower) and maxillary (upper) arches of the mouth, and it may exhibit different characteristics depending on the specific tooth.
