What is the meaning of Hypersensitivity?

Hypersensitivity is widely used term in Dental Miscellaneous Term.

Hypersensitivity, in the context of dental miscellaneous terms, refers to a condition where an individual experiences sensitivity or discomfort in their teeth when exposed to certain stimuli. These stimuli can include hot or cold temperatures, sweet or acidic foods or beverages, or even simple actions like brushing or flossing. Hypersensitivity occurs when the protective layers of the teeth, such as the enamel or cementum, become damaged or worn down, exposing the dentin underneath. The dentin contains tiny nerve endings that can be triggered by external stimuli, causing the sensation of pain or sensitivity. Treating hypersensitivity typically involves using desensitizing toothpaste, applying fluoride varnish or gel, using dental sealants, or in severe cases, undergoing dental procedures like dental bonding or a root canal treatment.
