It is often caused by a combination of factors including infection (fungal or bacterial), malnutrition, allergic reactions, or excessive salivation. Symptoms may include pain, redness, swelling, and the formation of small ulcers or blisters in the affected area. Angular cheilitis can be uncomfortable and may cause difficulty in speaking, eating, or opening the mouth. Treatment typically involves addressing the underlying causes, such as improving oral hygiene, managing nutrient deficiencies, and using topical or systemic antifungal or antibacterial medications to clear the infection.
