What is the meaning of Cantilever?

Cantilever is widely used term in Dental Miscellaneous Term.

In dental terminology, a cantilever refers to a type of dental prosthesis or bridge that is supported by an abutment only on one side, while the other side is suspended or extends beyond the natural teeth or implants. The unsupported end of the prosthesis relies on the strength of the remaining teeth or implants to provide stability and functionality. This type of restoration is commonly used when there is only one suitable abutment tooth available or when the missing teeth are located towards the back of the mouth.
