What is the meaning of Free Gingival Margin?

Free Gingival Margin is widely used term in Dental Miscellaneous Term.

The Free Gingival Margin refers to the part of the gum tissue that surrounds and meets the surface of the tooth. It is the visible edge of the gum tissue, and is usually positioned above the level of the tooth’s neck or crown. The term “free” indicates that this part of the gum tissue is not attached to the tooth, allowing for the formation of a shallow groove known as the gingival sulcus. The condition and position of the free gingival margin can provide important diagnostic information about the health of the gums and may be evaluated during dental examinations and periodontal assessments.
